The German government stated that Ukraine has met the requirements for reforms necessary to start discussions on joining the European Union, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

"According to the German government, Ukraine fulfills all the requirements to be able to start negotiations on joining the EU in June," German State Minister for European Affairs Anna Lührmann told DPA.

"That is why we urge all member countries to quickly reach an agreement on the negotiating framework,", she added.

In December, EU leaders agreed to open accession talks for Ukraine and reaffirmed their commitment to continue providing strong support to Kyiv and the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary.

However, the latest report from the European Commission showed that Ukraine is failing to implement some reforms, especially in the area of anti-corruption and protection of minorities, so the parties agreed that all reform requirements should be met before they start negotiations.

EU ambassadors plan to meet next week to discuss a framework for the talks. Hungary is seen as a possible obstacle.

Ukraine, along with neighboring Moldova, applied to join the bloc in early 2022 following Russia's full-scale invasion, DPA notes.
