Ninety countries and organizations have so far registered to participate in the Swiss Conference for Peace in Ukraine, which will be held on June 15-16. This was announced by the Swiss government, quoted by Reuters and News.bg.
Russia has not been invited to the conference in Switzerland. The Alpine country's government noted that the meeting will aim to jointly define a road map on how to include both Russia and Ukraine in a future peace process.
In January, Switzerland agreed to host the summit at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and has tried to drum up support for it among countries that have better relations with Moscow than the leading Western powers.
Russia described the summit as a waste of time. Switzerland noted that Russia was not invited because it had sent signals that it had no intention of participating in such a conference.
One of Russia's main allies, China, has said that it does not see the point of such a conference if Moscow does not participate in it.
The summit should discuss a wide range of areas of international interest, such as the need for nuclear and food security, freedom of navigation, as well as humanitarian issues, noted Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
