Putin hopes to meet Erdoğan in July in Kazakhstan

The foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia spoke at the BRICS meeting in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin said, quoted by Russian news agencies, that he hopes to will meet his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a regional meeting in Kazakhstan next month, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

„I hope that very soon, on the 3rd or 4th of July, he will be in Astana, as far as I know,” Putin told Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is visiting Russia to participate at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries of the BRICS group in the city of Nizhny Novgorod.

Putin is also quoted as saying that within the framework of the international event in Astana, he will have the opportunity to discuss with Erdogan “all current issues”.

A meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan, and Turkey often participates in these regional meetings as a partner, notes Reuters.

The Turkish president is trying to maintain good relations with both Russia and Ukraine, and to play the role of a mediator in the conflict, the agency reminds.

Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Khani and Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud met and exchanged views during the second day of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in Russia, reported the Iranian news agency IRNA, quoted by BTA.

On the second day of his visit to Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Ali Bagheri Khani, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met and held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

This meeting was held in Russia within the framework of the meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS countries.

The two countries discussed bilateral, regional and international issues, as well as ways to develop mutual cooperation.

Saudi Arabia is one of the countries that the BRICS group invited for official membership.

Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia were revived during the 13th government and with Riyadh asking Beijing for mediation.

Yesterday, Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Khani arrived in Nizhny Novgorod in western Russia to participate in BRICS 2024 as an official member.

He held talks with the foreign ministers of China, Belarus, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan and Brazil and with the special envoy of the president of the host country.

Iran joined the BRICS group of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa as a full member in January 2024
