Deputy Minister of Defense Natalia Kalmikova shared information about the composition of recruits in the country's army. As of May, one third of the new recruits in the Ukrainian army were volunteers, and two thirds were mobilized, reports News.bg.

Kalmikova, speaking at a conference in Kiev, said: “This shows that we still have the potential to protect Ukraine”.

May 18 marks a key moment with the entry into force of a new mobilization law. This legislation requires all conscripts to update their personal information in the conscript database, a move aimed at strengthening the armed forces. Since Ukraine's military is in urgent need of reinforcements, this law is a strategic step to increase mobilization efforts. Despite earlier discussions surrounding the need to recruit up to 500,000 troops, authorities later clarified that such a large number may not be necessary. This adjustment implies a strategic reassessment of Ukraine's defense needs and capabilities.

Aleksandr Zavitnevich, head of the Verkhovna Rada's Defense and Intelligence Committee, said that since the implementation of the law, more than 1.3 million Ukrainians have engaged with the app to update their data. As the conflict enters its third year, the initial influx of volunteers is dwindling.
