The German energy company Uniper (Uniper) won an arbitration case against Gazprom for the suspended supplies of blue fuel, reports the Associated Press.

According to the court decision of June 7, the Russian energy giant must pay compensation in the amount of 13 billion euros. The arbitration court based in Stockholm indicated that Uniper has the right to terminate the long-term gas supply contracts with Gazprom.

The German government nationalized Uniper at the end of 2022 after Russia cut off gas supplies to the country. Before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the company bought about half of its gas from Russia, which began reducing supplies to Germany in June 2022 and stopped them entirely later that summer.

Uniper filed a case against Gazprom in the Arbitration Court in November 2022

According to the German energy company, the tribunal's decision is legally binding and final. From there, however, they expressed doubt as to whether this compensation will actually be paid.

Uniper had a contract with Gazprom for the supply of blue fuel until 2030
