Former president of France Francois Hollande will run for parliament in the National Assembly - the lower house of the French parliament, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

"The far right has never been so close to power. There is political confusion in our country," said the 69-year-old former socialist president.

In view of the seriousness of the situation, Hollande added that he has decided to run for parliament as part of the newly formed "People's Front". He will fight for a parliamentary seat in the Corrèze department in South-West France.

Hollande was the head of France from 2012 to 2017.

The Socialists, Greens and Communists announced on Friday that they will enter into an alliance together for the parliamentary vote.

Parliamentary elections in France will be held on June 30 and July 7. Macron scheduled them after the far right won the most votes in the euro vote.
