The USA cannot withdraw from the world , US President Joe Biden said during a press conference he gave on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, BTA reported..
"My predecessor made it clear he was not committed to NATO," Biden said, referring directly to his predecessor Donald Trump, whom he will oppose in November's presidential election. Then Biden emphasized that a strong NATO is essential for the US as well.
At the press conference, Biden said that as long as he is president of the United States, his country will not stop supporting Ukraine.
The US president also touched on the topic of the war in the Gaza Strip and stated that there is progress towards an agreement between Israel and "Hamas" to end this conflict.
"The United States has been working for months to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, to return the hostages home, to pave the way for peace and stability in the Middle East,", Biden said.
"These are difficult and complex questions. There are still some gaps to fill. We are making progress. The trend is positive, and I am determined to conclude this agreement and end this war, which must be stopped now," Biden stressed.
In the press conference, Biden said that he is in the best position to beat Trump in the presidential election and that European allies of the US say he should beat Trump.
"I think I am the most competent to run for president. I already beat Trump once and I will beat him again" "I'm not doing this to preserve my legacy, but to finish the work I've started," he said.
Biden added that the European allies of the US are not telling him: "Joe, you shouldn't run,", they are telling him: "You should win. You can't let that one win. It will be a disaster"
At the press conference, however, Biden again made a slip and confused Donald Trump with Kamala Harris. He said he wouldn't have chosen Donald Trump as vice president if he wasn't sure she would be fit for president, apparently referring to Kamala Harris. He then also praised Harris' career as a senator before she became vice president, and added that she has done a good job defending women's reproductive rights in the past four years.
This was Biden's second such slip in the space of a few hours. Previously, he mistook Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Biden also assured that in three years he would still be able to “deal with“ the presidents of China and Russia. He added, however, that he has no desire to talk to Putin until Putin changes course.
"I'm not ready to talk to Putin until Putin changes his behavior,'' Biden said.
The US president said he is in good health and would undergo another neurological test to test his mental acuity if doctors recommend it.
He said he has already undergone three significant and intensive neurological tests, the most recent in February, and doctors have told him he is in good shape.
"I'm fine. "Every day, I'm testing my neurological abilities through the decisions I make every day," he added.
At the press conference, Biden also said it was not true that he had to go to bed at 8 p.m. But he added that instead of starting his day at 7 a.m. and going to bed at midnight, it would be more smart if he slows down.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump commented on his social network “Truth Social“ Biden's press conference, quipping: “Good job, Joe!"
