Prominent Syrian businessman Baraa Katerji, close to the country's president Bashar al-Assad, was killed in Syria in an Israeli strike near the border with Lebanon, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

"An Israeli drone targeted a car in which Baraa Katerji was traveling in Sabura municipality, not far from the capital Damascus, killing him and his companion," the London-based non-governmental organization said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights added that Katerji was linked to the Syrian Resistance for the Liberation of the Golan (the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights), a group created by the Lebanese Shiite movement ``Hezbollah'' that carries out operations against Israel. from Western Syria.
