A red code for dangerously hot weather is in effect throughout Serbia today, Serbian media reported, quoted by BTA.

At 6 o'clock this morning, it was hottest in Belgrade, where the measured temperature was 27 degrees Celsius. It was 26 degrees in Loznica, and a degree less in Novi Sad and Zrenjanin. It is coldest in Sienica, where the temperature at 6 o'clock was 14 degrees Celsius, Tanjug reported.

Serbian RTS TV notes that today is the peak of the heat in the country, but tomorrow the weather will be a little nicer. In Belgrade, 40 degrees are expected in the shade, the highest temperature since the start of this heat wave.

Health authorities have warned to avoid prolonged stay outdoors. Because of the hot weather, sleep disturbances and reduced work capacity are possible. Unfavorable biometeorological conditions will increase the usual complaints of chronically ill and sensitive people, so it is recommended to be careful, follow the doctor's recommendations, reduce physical exertion and apply adequate protection against ultraviolet rays.

The strong heat wave, with a lack of precipitation, will continue in the coming days, when in most cities in Serbia the maximum temperatures will be in the range of 35-40 degrees and with tropical nights in populated areas, reported the Republican Hydrometeorological Institute.

From Friday in northern, western and central Serbia, and from Saturday in other parts of the country, there will be a slight drop in temperature with showers and thunderstorms.
