JD Vance named China the biggest threat to the US in his first TV interview since being nominated by Donald Trump - vice president, reported “Bloomberg“.
The agency notes that this highlights the “hawkish stance” against Beijing of the Republican presidential and vice presidential candidates in the United States elections in November.
In an interview with “Fox News”, asked about the war in Ukraine, the Ohio senator indicated that Trump would negotiate with Moscow and Kiev “to bring things to a quick end so that America could focus on the real problem which is China”. “This is the biggest threat to our country and we are completely cut off from it,” he said.
„Bloomberg“ notes that with the November election approaching, Democratic President Joe Biden and his rival Trump are seeking to be seen as hardliners on China. Trump has vowed to raise tariffs on China if re-elected, pledging 60% tariffs on all Chinese imports. Biden has already announced a new tariff of 100% on electric cars from the Asian country.
Earlier “Bloomberg“ announced that US intelligence agencies believe that China has no clear preference between the two candidates.
This is not the first time Vance, 39, has criticized China. The senator has already called in the past for “sweeping tariffs” on Chinese goods and advocated bringing American manufacturing back home to reduce dependence on Beijing.
