Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov praised Donald Trump's vice-presidential candidate in the race for the White House for his position on the more than two years since Moscow war in Ukraine, DPA reported, BTA reported.

Vance, a senator from Ohio, supports peace and ending military aid to Ukraine, Lavrov said in New York yesterday at the UN headquarters, as quoted by TASS.

"We can only welcome this fact, because this is exactly what is needed - to stop pumping Ukraine with weapons. And the war will end. And we will be able to find a solution", noted the Russian Foreign Minister.

The United States is the country providing the largest volumes of military aid to Ukraine to repel Russian troops who launched a full-scale invasion of the neighboring country on February 24, 2022.

But Washington's NATO allies fear that American support could weaken significantly if the outcome of November's presidential election returns Trump to the White House, because they doubt his willingness to back Kiev's military effort .

Lavrov said he had heard that Vance was in favor of ending arms supplies to Ukraine and that he was committed to finding a peaceful solution to the war.

Vance, once an outspoken critic of Trump, now fully supports the billionaire's bid for the White House and is considered a rising star in the GOP camp.

He has often spoken out against U.S. aid to Kiev, voting in April against a Senate-approved $61 billion aid package for Ukraine.

Just days before war broke out, Vance declared: "I don't really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.

Trump, who was officially nominated as the Republican Party's presidential nominee on Monday, has repeatedly said he would be able to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, without specifying how he would achieve that goal.
