Ukraine is ready for “good faith” peace talks with Russia if Moscow is also ready for it, although there is no such indication from Moscow, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, quoted by Reuters. He made the announcement during his meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.
For his part, Van has emphasized that solving the “Ukrainian conflict” should be put on the negotiating table, and China is ready to mediate on this, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a press conference.
„Minister Wang Yi said that according to China, the resolution of all conflicts should be done at the negotiating table, because the resolution of all differences and disputes should always be achieved through political channels,” Mao said.
According to her, the Chinese minister also noted that the “Ukrainian crisis” (as China calls Russia's war in Ukraine), is now in its third year, but a resolution to the conflict is yet to be found, while the risks of its expansion grow.
The spokeswoman added that Wang Yi emphasized Beijing's firm commitment to offer a political solution to the crisis.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry statement also said the minister indicated that both Ukraine and Russia have recently shown varying degrees of willingness to negotiate.
„Although the conditions and time are not yet ripe, we support all efforts to offer peace and are ready to play a constructive role in a ceasefire and the resumption of peace talks,” Wang Yi stressed. He added that his country pays attention to the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and will continue to provide humanitarian aid to the war-torn country.
According to the statement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Kuleba, for his part, emphasized that Kiev highly values China's positive and constructive role in promoting peace and maintaining international order. Ukraine pays close attention to China's opinion and carefully examines all Beijing's initiatives, the statement added.
„Ukraine is willing and ready for dialogue and negotiations with Russia. But such negotiations must be reasonable, meaningful and aimed at achieving a just and sustainable peace,”, the Chinese foreign minister was quoted as saying.
