The Director General of the Albanian Fire Service, Arben Tsara, announced that more than 10 hectares of land with olives and bushy vegetation were affected by a large forest fire that broke out in the town of Kavaya, southwest of the capital Tirana, Albanian Radio and Television reported, quoted by BTA.

Tsara informed last night that the fire at Kavaya continues to be active, and all firefighting teams, including those from neighboring municipalities, were on site to extinguish it. He emphasized that a total of 50 teams were working at the site, but the situation was complicated by the wind blowing in this area.

The fire has been close to people's homes, but the intervention of the fire brigade has helped to keep it from engulfing any houses so far. The operational forces of the fire service will monitor active outbreaks at night as well.

Tsara informed that two people have been arrested for arson in connection with the fire and urged citizens to be careful.

„Any person who starts a fire with or without intention should understand that this is a crime and is punishable”, Tsara said.

At the place where the fire broke out, the Albanian Minister of the Interior Taulyant Bala and the mayor of Kavaja municipality were also present.
