Former President Donald Trump yesterday laid out his plans to fully adopt cryptocurrency if elected to a second term, telling hundreds of jubilant supporters of the digital tokens that he wants the US to be a “bitcoin superpower” under his leadership, reported the Associated Press, quoted by BTA.
In a keynote speech at a Bitcoin conference in Nashville, Tennessee, the Republican presidential candidate promised to make the US the “crypto capital of the planet” and to create a “strategic bitcoin reserve”.
He also promised to remove Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler if elected and to create a special advisory board.
„We will have regulations, but from now on the regulations will be written by people who love your industry, not hate your industry,” Trump said.
Trump's speech at the conference “Bitcoin 24” (Bitcoin 2024) showed how radically his position on cryptocurrency has changed.
He has not always been a fan of cryptocurrencies, and in 2019 wrote on social media that their “value is highly volatile and based on something imaginary”.
Trump has embraced the digital currency in recent years, and in May his campaign began accepting cryptocurrency donations.
During his nearly 50-minute speech, Trump repeatedly tried to point his support for cryptocurrency in contrast to the Biden administration's efforts to regulate the industry, telling the crowd that the federal government is “blocking your way”.

Trump said he wants cryptocurrency “mined, mined and produced” in the US.
The former president addressed Bitcoin fans, pointing to US law enforcement seizures of the digital token.
Tennessee US Senator Marsha Blackburn called Trump's announcement of a strategic bitcoin reserve a “historic moment”.
Trump's speech came a day after independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressed the conference and also proposed the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve.
