Five killed and dozens wounded in Russian strikes on Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine

Five civilians were killed and 15 more wounded in Russian strikes yesterday and over the past night in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian regional governor announced, while Moscow claimed to have captured more villages as part of its months-long offensive in the industrial Donbass region, the Associated Press reported, BTA reported.

Shortly after Donetsk Oblast Governor Vadim Filashkin announced the death toll today, another Ukrainian official said more civilians had been wounded in eastern and southern Ukraine by Russian shelling. At least eight people were injured today in a Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Nikopol, regional governor Serhii Lysak said. He added that a baby and a 10-year-old girl were among the injured, and six people were hospitalized.

Eight civilians, including a 10-year-old child and two teenagers, were also injured in Russian shelling in a village in Ukraine's southern Kherson region, local official Roman Mrochko said.

In the Donetsk region, Russian troops continue their advance to the west towards the cities of Pokrovsk and Kurakhove. The Russian Defense Ministry said today that its forces had taken control of two neighboring villages about 30 kilometers east of Pokrovsk - Progress and Yevgenivka. Moscow announced yesterday that it had captured the neighboring village of Lozuvatske. This morning, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian forces shot down seven Ukrainian drones over Russian territory last night, and a local official said that a fire broke out at an oil warehouse in Russia's Kursk region after a drone strike.
