The Kremlin has rejected speculation by Western media that Russia is behind a series of attacks on the French railway network, and said that Western media often try to blame Moscow for everything without having evidence, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

Saboteurs attacked France's rail network across the country on Friday in a series of pre-dawn attacks that caused travel chaos and exposed security gaps just hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

On Saturday, France's interior minister said he could not rule out foreign involvement in the attacks, which sabotaged signaling stations and cables on the country's high-speed rail network, with some Western media blaming Russia while others suggested the more likely culprits are left-wing activists.

When asked about the media speculation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "These are just the latest fakes – more unfounded accusations.“

"The fact is that there are many such low-quality media, and even respected ones, which recently do not hesitate to do everything to blame Russia for everything that is happening,” Peskov said.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen said today that France suspects members of far-left groups are behind the sabotage of the rail network.
