Russian forces carry out their heaviest attacks near the Ukrainian strategic eastern city of Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian army announced. The attacks threaten a key supply route for Ukrainian troops fighting to repel Moscow's 29-month-old invasion, Reuters reported.
The fiercest battles are on the Pokrovsk front, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army said, and added that in the last 24 hours, Kiev repelled 52 Russian attacks. The important transport hub of Pokrovsk, with a population of 61,000 before the war, is located on a key supply route to other points under Ukrainian control such as the cities of Chasiv Yar (Chosov Yar in Russian) and Kostantinovka.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced yesterday that its forces had established control over two villages in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region. The two settlements are located east of Pokrovsk. Kyiv did not comment on the case.
