In July 2024, Russian ground forces launched sustained attacks in the central Donetsk region, advancing steadily westward, taking control of several villages and closing in on the logistics hub of Pokrovsk, the British Ministry of Defense said in a daily report.
Russian ground forces have also advanced north towards the Ukrainian village of New York, which has been on the front lines since 2014.
Russia is likely to continue its tactical advances in the coming weeks, but its overall operational capacity remains limited by a number of factors, including high casualty rates, limited training and a shortage of officers, British MoD experts predict.
