The assassination of the head of "Hamas" Ismail Haniyeh's assassination is "an absolutely unacceptable political assassination," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told RIA Novosti, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"This is an absolutely unacceptable political assassination and it will lead to a further escalation of tensions," RIA quoted the deputy foreign minister as saying.

He said the assassination would also have a negative impact on the ceasefire talks in Gaza, RIA added.

Russia, which maintains relations with Arab countries, Iran and "Hamas" as well as Israel, has often condemned the violence in the region and accused the United States of ignoring the need for an independent Palestinian state.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said today that the blood of the slain "Hamas" leader Ismail Haniyeh "will never be wasted".

"Haniyyah's martyrdom in Tehran will strengthen the deep and unbreakable bond between Tehran, Palestine and the resistance", Iranian state media quoted Kanaani as saying.

Mohaled Ali al-Houthi, head of the Yemeni Houthi Supreme Committee, said the attack on Ismail Haniyeh "is a heinous terrorist crime and a gross violation of laws, ideals and values."

Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said: "This assassination by the Israeli occupiers of brother Haniyeh is a serious escalation that aims to break the will of "Hamas" and the will of our people and achieve false goals. We confirm that this escalation will not achieve its goals.

"Hamas" is a concept and an institution, not individuals. "Hamas" will continue on this path regardless of the victims and we are confident of victory."

The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued the following statement:

"We express our condolences to the Palestinian people, who gave hundreds of thousands of martyrs like Haniyeh, so that they can live in peace in their own homeland, under the roof of their own state.

Once again, it has been revealed that the Netanyahu government has no intention of achieving peace. This attack also aims to spread the war in Gaza to the regional level. If the international community does not take action to stop Israel, our region will face much greater conflicts."
