Syria: This killing could set the whole region on fire

Damascus condemns this flagrant Zionist aggression and this severe assault on the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran

The death of the leader of "Hamas" Ismail Haniya, killed earlier today in Tehran, could "set the entire region on fire," the Syrian Foreign Ministry said, blaming Israel for the assassination carried out by an airstrike, BTA reports.

"Syria condemns this flagrant Zionist aggression and this grave encroachment on the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran,", Damascus stressed.

The armed wing of "Hamas" – The Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades also said today that the killing of Haniya would "take the struggle to new dimensions". and will have severe consequences for the entire region, notes Reuters.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced today that the killing of Haniya "will receive a firm and painful response".

"Iran and the resistance front will respond to this crime,", the corps statement emphasized.

Tehran calls the "resistance front" the groups allied with him in the Middle East, which are opposed to Israel, reminds Reuters.

Iran today announced three days of national mourning for Haniya's death.
