Iran blames both Israel and the US for the death of the political leader of "Hamas" Ismail Hania in today's attack in Tehran, according to a statement by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoted by DPA, BTA reported.

"The United States is also responsible for this brutal act of terrorism," the statement said. Washington has always supported the Israeli government and consistently condoned its crimes, thus also playing a role in this incident, the Iranian Foreign Ministry noted.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran reiterates that Iran has the legitimate right to respond appropriately to a crime committed on its own territory. According to the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" its political leader was killed in an Israeli attack on a residence in Tehran early this morning. Israel declined to comment on Hania's death.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Washington was not involved in Hania's violent death and had no prior knowledge of the murder.
