In northeastern China's Liaoning province, due to the threat of floods and natural disasters, more than 28,000 people have been evacuated from dangerous areas, the People's Daily newspaper reported, as quoted by Focus.

According to the meteorologists, during the torrential rains, which have covered almost the entire territory of the province since Sunday, the largest amount of precipitation was recorded in one hour - 81.9 millimeters. The average rainfall in Liaoning for the last day is 25.4 millimeters.

The heavy rains caused water levels in several major rivers in the region to rise sharply and threatened to flood several towns and villages, so local authorities decided to evacuate more than 28,000 people from the most threatened areas.

Eight of the province's 14 districts have declared a heightened level of emergency response to deal with flooding, including the provincial capital Shenyang, with a population of more than nine million.

Lifeguards and employees of other state agencies have been mobilized to patrol and monitor water levels in reservoirs.
