Bangladesh's parliament was dissolved today, the country's presidency said in a statement. This happens a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country following violent protests against her, Reuters reported, as quoted by BTA.

„Based on the decisions after the meeting of the president with the commanders of the three types of armed forces, the leaders of the various political parties, the representatives of civil society and the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the national parliament was dissolved,” the statement reads, TASS reported.

The statement was released hours after student protest leaders set a deadline for the legislature to dissolve and warned of consequences if not.
