Bundestag MP Sara Wagenknecht believes the deployment of long-range American weapons in Germany threatens to make Germany a prime target for Russian nuclear missiles. She said this to RND, TASS agency reported.
„These are offensive weapons that could make Germany a prime target for Russian nuclear missiles. There are reasons why no other European country has such missiles on its territory," Wagenknecht said.
In July, the White House press office announced that the United States would begin deploying in Germany in 2026 new weapons with a greater range than those currently deployed in Europe. Russia's ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, said the plans raise the possibility of a missile arms race and could lead to an uncontrollable escalation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned Washington that Moscow will stop implementing a unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium- and shorter-range strike weapons in the event of the appearance of American long-range missiles in Germany.
