The Moldovan chargé d'affaires in Moscow was summoned today to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who expressed "deep concern" from the information spread in the media that F-16 fighter jets provided by the West to Ukraine will be deployed at Moldovan airports, Reuters reported.
"The Moldovan side was called upon to strictly adhere to the neutral status that is the basis of Moldovan statehood and not to take actions that could contribute to the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis," the diplomatic department said in a statement .
Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied that the country has any such plans. "There are not and will be no weapons and military equipment, including military aircraft, destined for Ukraine in Moldova," the statement said.
