Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva suggested that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro schedule new elections, to which international observers would be invited, as a possible solution to the political crisis in the country, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Lula also said that the formation of a “coalition government” is another possible solution in Venezuela, after the July 28 presidential election, the results of which were contested by the opposition, which also announced that it had won.

„If (Maduro) has common sense, he could address the people by being able to call new elections with a supra-party electoral commission,” the Brazilian president said in a radio interview.

He indicated that he still does not recognize Maduro as the winner of the vote and said that the Venezuelan government should release the election records, which have not yet been shown publicly.

„Maduro knows he owes the world an explanation”, Lula also said.
