Russian lawmaker Mikhail Sheremet said that the supported from the West, the Ukrainian invasion of the Kursk region has brought the world closer to a world war, RIA Novosti reported, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
Ukrainian troops crossed the border into Russia's Kursk region on August 6. Since then, they have achieved considerable success in their offensive and forced Moscow to evacuate more than 200,000 civilians.
„Given the availability of Western equipment, the use of Western ammunition and missiles in attacks on civilian infrastructure, and the indisputable evidence of foreign involvement in the attack on Russian territory, one can conclude that the world is on edge of the Third World War”, said Sheremet, quoted by RIA.
Sheremet is a member of the defense committee in the Russian parliament. He repeated the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who says that NATO member countries have given the green light to plans for a Ukrainian invasion of Kursk Oblast. The US denies such actions, Reuters clarifies.
In an interview for v. “Ivestia“ presidential aide Nikolay Patrushev also accused the West of being behind the attack. According to him, NATO and Western intelligence services were involved in the planning of the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region. Patrushev did not present any evidence, notes Reuters.
„The operation in the Kursk region was also planned with the participation of NATO and Western special services,” Patrushev stressed. He said US claims that it was not involved in the attack were not true.
Ukraine and its allies claim that Russia is receiving military aid from China, Iran and North Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un confirmed the promise of deepening cooperation with Russia and expressed confidence that Moscow will be victorious in its “holy war for peace and justice”, notes Reuters.
