Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said during a briefing on military security issues that there is a high probability of armed provocation by a neighboring Ukraine, reported Reuters referring to a publication in the state news agency of Belarus – “Belta“.

„In the conditions of the presence of Ukrainian armed formations in the border areas, there remains a great possibility of preparing and carrying out an armed provocation on our territory, as well as actions caused by it, including by activating the Belarusian nationalist formations”, says Hrenin, quoted by “Belta”.

„The situation in the southern operational direction remains tense. The formations of the Armed Forces and the Border Service of Ukraine continue to improve their border protection systems… Along the entire state border of the Republic of Belarus, special operations forces and the Security Service of Ukraine are active, he added.

Hrenin's comments come as the Ukrainian invasion of Russian territory, which began on August 6 with thousands of Ukrainian soldiers crossing Russia's western border, continues.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who is a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, warned yesterday that Ukraine could attack his country and widen the war front.
