The official announcement of the start of the withdrawal of the troops of the US-led international coalition against the terrorist group "Islamic State" from Iraq has been postponed indefinitely.

This was revealed by the newspaper "Al-Sharq al-Awsat", citing a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

"The announcement of the end date of the mission of the US-led international coalition is being postponed due to recent events," the newspaper said.

The Iraqi ministry did not give details of the decision.

At the end of last week, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein will visit the United States in September. It was expected that during this visit the countries would officially announce the beginning of the withdrawal of the troops of the international coalition from Iraqi territory.

According to the interlocutors of the agency, the withdrawal of international forces from the country, with the exception of Iraqi Kurdistan, was planned to begin in September 2025. In Iraqi Kurdistan, foreign troops were expected to leave the country only in September 2026.
