Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that peace talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will be “in vain” and “meaningless”, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

"The world is waiting for Ukraine to present a compromise plan on how to end the war as early as tomorrow,” Zelensky said at an event in Kyiv.

"It's not that there can't be compromises with Putin, but holding a dialogue with Putin today is futile, pointless, because he doesn't want to end the war diplomatically,”, he added.

Putin may be inclined to diplomatic negotiations, but his condition is that Kiev recognizes Russia's seizure of 30% of Ukrainian territory, Zelensky emphasized.

"We will not play this game with him,”, he added.

The Ukrainian president also said that the advance of his forces in Russia's Kursk region has silenced Kiev's critics.

At the summit in Switzerland in June, Ukraine presented its views on achieving peace. The plan calls for the withdrawal of Russian troops from all areas of Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula. Russia should also, according to Kiev, pay reparations to Ukraine and an international court hold Moscow's political and military leaders accountable.
