European Parliament President Roberta Mezzola appointed a relative a relative as head of his office, "Politico" reported, BTA reported.

Matthew Tabon, who started working in the European Parliament for Mezzola in 2013, takes over from Leticia Suleta de Reals Ansaldo. She takes up a new position as Director of the Department for Relations with National Parliaments in the European Parliament.

In his post on "Facebook" MEP Alex Ajus Saliba from the Labor Party in Malta described Mezzola's move as "unbridled nepotism". Mezzola is from Malta Labour's rival Nationalist Party. Tabon has been a close aide to Mezzola for years. After starting to work for her, he married her sister in 2015, before she became President of the European Parliament.

When at the end of 2022, Mezzola heads the EP, she proposes Tabon for the position of head of her office. In the end, however, he refrained from appointing him, as the timing coincided with the "Catargate" scandal. about money versus influence, which rocked the European Parliament, notes "Politico".
