The EU is still not doing enough to increase its weapons production capacity in the face of current geopolitical threats, in particular Russia's war in Ukraine, said the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
The defense of Europe is above all a duty of Europe itself. And while it is right that NATO remains the basis of our common defense, we also need a much stronger European backbone," said the German at the GLOBSEC forum, an international security conference organized this year in Prague.
Von der Leyen pointed out that it was a fallacy that at the beginning of this decade Europe made enough efforts in the field of security, and added that the second half of the decade holds great risks.
"We Europeans must be alert. In everything we do, our attention must be redirected to the security aspects. We must look at our Union as a security project," the head of the EC stressed.
