A majority of Brazil's five-judge Supreme Court supported Judge Alexandre de Morais' decision to block the social media platform Ex in the country for failing to comply with local regulations, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
Judges Flavio Dino and Cristiano Zanin joined Morais in the majority, while judges Luiz Fuchs and Carmen Lucia dissented.
„Ex“ was blocked in Brazil on Saturday following a ruling by Morais because the platform failed to meet a deadline to appoint a legal representative in the country, as required by local law.
Morais and Ex owner Elon Musk have been at odds for months after the platform was asked to block accounts accused of spreading manipulated news and hate speech.
“It is not possible for a company to operate in a country and impose its point of view on which rules should be valid and enforced,“ said Judge Dino. “It is clear that a company that deliberately disobeys the court's ruling believes it is above the law. It could thus become a criminal,“ he added.
