Powerful storms and torrential rains from the deadly typhoon "Yagi" flooded southern China today, where schools were closed for the second day in a row and airplane flights were suspended, while the strongest storm in Asia this year headed for the coast of China's Hainan province, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

With maximum sustained winds of 245 kilometers per hour near its center, Typhoon "Yagi" is so far the world's second strongest tropical cyclone for 2024 after Atlantic hurricane "Beryl" of category 5, as well as the strongest for the Pacific region this year.

Having more than doubled in strength since it killed 16 people in the northern Philippines earlier this week, at noon today the eye of "Yagi" reached about 100 km from the coast of the Chinese province of Hainan, and during the past night the wind speed did not decrease.

Typhoon "Yagi" is expected this afternoon. to make landfall along China's coast between Wenchang in Hainan Province and Leizhou in Guangdong Province, and over the weekend to Vietnam and Laos.
