The mission of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to Brussels today is to try to improve relations with the European Union, which the United Kingdom left four years ago, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

Starmer focused his talks at the EU headquarters in the Belgian capital on security, migration and trade, the agency noted. He is scheduled to speak with the heads of the main EU institutions – the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the President of the European Parliament Roberta Mezzola.

"The UK is undeniably stronger when it works in sync with its closest international partners. Now it's more important than ever – given that war, conflict and insecurity are knocking on Europe's door," Starmer said in a statement released by his office on his one-day visit to Brussels.

The Prime Minister said he was "determined to put Brexit in the past and establish a more pragmatic and mature relationship with the European Union," adds AP. According to the Labor Party leader, better cooperation "will bring British people the benefits they deserve – securing borders, ensuring the safety of citizens and stimulating economic growth."

The EU, for its part, envisages exchange programs for young people on both sides of the English Channel, according to which citizens from the EU countries will be able to study, work and live for a while in Great Britain and vice versa, AP points out. However, Brexit supporters on the Island are against such plans.
