Iran warned Israel today against launching attacks against the Islamic Republic, a week after Tehran fired a barrage of missiles at the Jewish state, upending the Middle East on the brink of a full-scale war, Reuters reported.

"I advise the Zionist regime (Israel) not to test the resolve of the Islamic Republic. If any attack is launched against our country, our response will be more powerful," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a televised address.

Any attack on Iran's infrastructure will provoke a corresponding response, Aragchi added.

Meanwhile, Israel's military is stepping up pressure on the Iranian-backed Lebanese movement Hezbollah, killing the Islamist militia's chief of staff, Suhail Hussein Husseini, in a strike in Beirut, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement today.

If confirmed, Husseini's death would be another success of Israel's strategy to deal serious blows to its enemies by eliminating leaders and commanders of "Hezbollah" and its ally "Hamas", which has been fighting for a year against the Israeli army in the "Gaza" strip.

The biggest blow to "Hezbollah" decades ago, its leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut at the end of last month.

These attacks have heightened fears that the US, which is Israel's closest ally, and Iran will be drawn into a full-scale war in the Middle East, according to Reuters.
