Russian forces have regained control of a monastery in Russia's Kursk region where Ukrainian troops had dug in, Russian state media reported today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

TASS cited a security source as saying that Russian troops had seized the “St. Nicholas Belogorsky“ monastery in the village of Gornal.

A Russian military channel on the “Telegram” messaging app said that Ukraine had deployed troops, artillery and drone launchers to the historic site, which Russia captured after 10 days of fierce fighting. Reuters could not independently confirm the reports.

Russia is close to pushing Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region, which they seized in a surprise offensive last August. Moscow has responded by sending in significant reinforcements, including North Korean troops, Reuters noted.
