Turkey to build its own nuclear submarine

Ankara seeks to start producing and exporting submarines made entirely in Turkey

The Commander of the Turkish Navy, Admiral Ercument Tatlioglu, confirmed Turkey's plans to build its own nuclear submarine, reported “Türkiye Today“, writes BTA.

“Thanks to the capabilities of the military shipyard in Gölcük, which has been operating for more than 50 years, we will have the opportunity to take a decisive step towards building our own nuclear submarines, which are essential for our vision of being a medium-sized power with global influence“, Tatlioglu said, emphasizing that such a project could benefit from the achievements of the project for the Turkish nuclear power plant “Akkuyu“, which the Turkish authorities plan to put into operation by 2028.

At the same time Tatlıoğlu stressed that Ankara aims to start producing and exporting submarines made entirely in Turkey.

“Building a submarine that meets all our operational needs, with a design and construction process entirely under our control, without foreign interference, has been a national ambition for 139 years“, Tatlıoğlu added.
