United States President Donald Trump announced today that Yemeni Houthi rebels have "capitulated", leading to the cessation of US bombing in Yemen, the Associated Press reports, BTA reports.
Trump said the Iran-allied group had agreed to end its attacks on commercial shipping and key shipping lanes in the Middle East.
During an Oval Office meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the US leader said: “The Houthis said: ‚Please don't bomb us anymore and we won't attack your ships.‘“
The group itself has not yet commented publicly on these statements.
The Houthis began shelling Israel and ships in the Red Sea after Israel launched a military offensive against the Palestinian group “Hamas“ in Gaza, following “Hamas“'s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
