European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned today that Russian President Vladimir Putin could launch wider attacks if Ukraine does not reach a peace agreement with Moscow on the terms set by Kiev, Brussels-based Politiko reported.

"The way the war ends will shape our continent for generations to come. A bad deal could encourage Putin to come back for more", she said.

During her address to the European Parliament on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, von der Leyen stressed that any peace agreement would only be permanent if it guaranteed Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and respected its aspirations for EU membership.
