The leader of the far-right Romanian party “Alliance for the Unification of Romanians“ (AUR), Gheorghe Simion, who won the first round of the presidential elections in Romania, demanded that Ukraine pay compensation for the assistance provided by Romania. This is reported by Digi24, Fokus reports.

Simeon said his position on Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine is "neutrality, no escalation and no arms supply", stressing that he supports the approach of former US President Donald Trump.

He reiterated his firm position against future support for Ukraine, stressing that if elected president, Romania would focus on its internal problems and interests.

"Ukraine needs us, not we need it. It must respect the Romanian community on its territory. We want compensation for Romania's participation in the war so far," Simeon said.

He added that the form of this compensation is subject to negotiation. "But for the Patriot air defense system that Klaus Iohannis donated - in my opinion, in an act of national treason - as well as for other expenses that Romanian citizens made out of their own pockets, we must get something in return," the candidate also pointed out.

We recall that on May 4, the first round of the presidential elections was held in Romania. Gheorghe Simion received 40.94% of the vote, followed by the liberal mayor of Bucharest, Nikusor Dan, with 20.99%.
