Europe and its allies, in particular Japan, are once again putting themselves on a military path, said Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, calling what is happening "madness", TASS reported, quoted by BTA.
"Think about it - Europe is arming itself again, this is madness. England is arming itself again. "Japan is rearming again," he told reporters after visiting the Russian Federation and attending Victory Day celebrations in Moscow.
The Brazilian president added that EU countries, including Germany, should have been in Moscow on May 9 to celebrate with Russia the victory over Nazism.
"France should have participated in the celebrations, Germany should have been here too," he told reporters. "All of Europe should have been here on that day. On Victory Day. How can we [on that day] criticize a country that lost 26 million people [in World War II]?"
"And what commemorative gesture was made [by EU countries]? Brazil made this gesture and will continue to celebrate [Victory Day],” the Brazilian leader emphasized.
Lula da Silva emphasized that Brazil, unlike the EU, will continue to preserve the memory of the USSR's feat in defeating Nazism.
