US President Donald Trump welcomed Russian leader Vladimir Putin's offer to resume direct talks with the authorities in Kiev.
“This could be a great day for Russia and Ukraine. Think of the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be saved when this endless slaughter ends“, he wrote on Truth Social.
According to the US leader, he "will continue to work with both sides to make sure that happens".
Early this morning, Putin proposed to the authorities in Kiev to resume direct talks, which were suspended at the end of 2022, without preconditions. The Russian leader announced his initiative during a statement to journalists in the Kremlin.
The talks are proposed to be resumed on May 15 in Istanbul.
