The conflict in Gaza cannot be solved by military means, and the emphasis must be placed on a political solution, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said during his visit to Jerusalem today, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The minister said that Germany will do everything possible to guarantee Israel's security, but that does not mean that his country cannot criticize Israel's actions, adding that this “should not lead to anti-Semitism“.
According to Israel, in the attacks by the Palestinian movement “Hamas“ on October 7, 2023 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage in Gaza. According to health authorities in the enclave, controlled by “Hamas“, Israeli forces have killed more than 52,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians.
Wadeful reiterated that the return of the hostages was a priority for the German government. The new foreign minister also said he was not sure whether military action in Gaza would benefit Israel's security, adding that it was clear that Gaza was part of Palestinian territory.
