US President Donald Trump has agreed to a ceasefire with the Yemeni Houthis, as the American bombing has not led to any results, except for the destruction of billions of dollars worth of ammunition, writes the New York Times.

In the first 30 days, the Houthis have shot down seven American MQ-9 drones (about $ 30 million each), which has complicated the ability of Central Command to track and strike the militant group.

Several American F-16 aircraft and one F-35 fighter jet have been almost shot down by the Houthis' air defenses, making the possibility of American casualties real.

"But there were no results. The United States did not even establish air superiority over the Houthis. Instead, what emerged after 30 days of an intensified campaign against the Yemeni group was another costly but fruitless American military intervention in the region,” the NYT wrote.

At the time, Trump’s special envoy, Stephen Witkoff, said that Omani officials had proposed a truce in which the United States would stop bombing and the Houthis would not attack American ships, but no agreement had been reached.

Trump, who has always been suspicious of prolonged military conflicts in the Middle East and has seen no results on the 31st day of the campaign, agreed. And he praised the Houthis for their “courage”.
