Romanian presidential candidate from the nationalist Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR), Gheorghe Simion, met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni in Rome. He announced this on his official Facebook profile, BTA reports.
Simion posted a photo with Meloni, accompanied by the comment: “We have friends, we have allies, but most importantly, we have God!“.
The presidential candidate, who received the most votes in the first round on May 4, also shared a video on the social platform TikTok in which he is with Giorgia Meloni.
“Someone in the Romanian press claims that we are not on your agenda - we, the Romanians, we, the conservatives“, Simion says in English, addressing Meloni. This is in response to a comment by journalist Cosmin Prelipceanu on Digi24 TV that “Meloni does not include Simion on his agenda“.
“My agenda is 9 o'clock, today, Wednesday, and I am with you“, Meloni replies in the video and ends with a smile: “See you soon“.
At the same time, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini announced his support for Simion in a post on the social network X, joining other European right-wing and far-right leaders, including Marine Le Pen - leader of the French party “National Unity“.
Earlier this week, Simion visited Poland, where he met with President Andrzej Duda and participated in an election rally of Karol Nawrocki - a presidential candidate supported by the nationalist opposition party “Law and justice“.
Today Simion is in Brussels, he announced again via a Facebook post.
