At least 16 people have died in tornadoes in the states of Missouri and Kentucky, NBC News reports.
The elements claimed the lives of nine residents of Laurel County (Kentucky). Five people died in the city of St. Louis, Missouri, and two people died in Scott County, Missouri. Dozens of other people were injured and taken to hospitals. Search and rescue operations continue.
According to the monitoring resource PowerOutage, more than 103 thousand customers in Kentucky remain without electricity. In Missouri, this figure is 85,000.
