China is categorically against the European Union's "unfounded" sanctions against Chinese companies and resolutely opposes this decision, the foreign ministry in Beijing said, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

The EU and Britain announced new sanctions against Russia yesterday, which also target some Chinese companies.

In Beijing, foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning called on the EU to abandon its "double standards" regarding economic and trade relations with Russia, saying that most countries, including those in Europe, as well as the United States, continue to trade with Russia.

China will take necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests, Mao said at a regular media meeting when asked about the sanctions.
