The Russian Federation hopes that the investigation into the murder of Viktor Yanukovych's former adviser Andrei Portnov in Madrid will be impartial and will reveal the perpetrators of the murder. This was stated to RIA Novosti by the Russian Foreign Ministry's ambassador for special tasks for the crimes of the Kiev regime, Rodion Miroshnik.

On Wednesday, Spanish police confirmed to RIA Novosti that Portnov was shot dead in the morning at the entrance to a school in the town of Pozuelo de Alarcón near Madrid. According to the newspaper "20minutos", the former Yanukovych adviser was shot by unknown persons riding a motorcycle.

"Is there any reason for anyone to be afraid of Portnov? Perhaps they are hidden somewhere in the activities that Portnov was engaged in before 2014, he had access to court materials, and such figures as (Volodymyr) Zelensky, (Zelensky's chief of staff Andriy) Ermak, (former Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy) Reznikov, they did not appear out of nowhere. Before 2014. they actively cooperated with the Yanukovych administration and other government structures, including the judiciary," Miroshnyk said.

He did not rule out that Portnov may have had data that seemed sufficiently dangerous to the individuals named, or that there was data that was already linked to his human rights activities in the period after 2014.

"The approach very deliberately demonstrates that what is happening here is practically an extrajudicial execution, a contract killing with a control shot, in which outright criminals are used, who most likely acted on orders. But the threads that they will reach, I think, will be clarified by the investigation. We really hope for its impartiality. That they will be able to establish the real guarantors and motives, due to which a fairly well-known Ukrainian politician was killed," Miroshnyk concluded.
