Migrant shot dead in shootout with Serbian police near Croatian border

A group of illegal migrants opened fire on Serbian border police after their makeshift camp was discovered during a routine patrol in the area between the Serbian town of Šid and the Croatian border, the Serbian Interior Ministry announced last night, HINA reported, BTA reported.

One migrant was fatally shot in the shootout, while several others fled and are being sought. Four people were detained by police.

Officers from the Sremska Mitrovica police station and a prosecutor from the Supreme Prosecutor's Office arrived at the scene to investigate the circumstances of the incident, the ministry said in a statement.
